Wake Up

Hugo Helmig is back. Seine neue Single "Wake Up" bringt seine Stärken auf den Punkt. Pop der in jeder Sekunde unangestrengt und nahbar klingt und für viele wieder an die Qualität von Hits wie "Wild" anknüpft.

artist bio

Hugo Helmig released his debut single ‘Please Don’t Lie’ a few weeks prior to 19th birthday: and suddenly everything took off. The infectious song went on to be the most played song on Danish radio in 2017 (and runner up in 2018), earning Hugo his first platinum certification, and has to-date been streamed more than 30 million times on Spotify alone. As ‘Please Don’t Lie’ started to climb the German Airplay Charts, it was clear there was a huge demand for the young songwriter outside of his home country. The song peaked at number 3 and spread to other European countries for instance entering top10 in Austria and top20 in Switzerland. The international follow up single ‘Wild’ went on to do the same, spending an astonishing five weeks at the number one spot in Denmark, peaked at number 3 in Germany and racking up 25 million streams on Spotify making 2018 an eventful year for Hugo. In 2018 he played more than 70 shows with his band consisting of his peers from his hometown Aarhus. Furthermore he took home “Best New Name” and “Hit of The Year” at the annual Gaffa Awards – the award ceremony hosted by the Scandinavian music magazine, Gaffa. The third single ‘Young Like This’ went #1 on Danish radio and top20 in Germany, and in March 2019 Hugo Helmig released his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Juvenile’ that was named Album of The Year by biggest Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet. Following the success in both Denmark and Germany, as well as touring a lot in both countries, Hugo Helmig took a step back from the limelight to be able to write and record the songs he wanted too. The result was the powerful and brutally honest mini album ‘LULU vol 1’ with six songs addressing a turbulent few years, where Hugo Helmig suddenly had to deal with being a household name in his native country while touring and recording. The songs are all very personal and deal with topics such as heartbreak and anxiety, and they show a more mature and melancholic side of the Danish artist than we’ve heard before. In summer 2020 Hugo Helmig released the pop gem ‘Sooner or Later’ – a song he has written with Danish superstar Lukas Graham that also appears on the song’s chorus. Later on in 2020 he released the catchy and uplifting ‘Champagne Problems’ that quickly established in top of local Danish charts peaking at #4 on Danish radio and staying in top10 for months. In March 2021 Hugo Helmig releases new single which will be first of many in 2021. The record titled ‘Wake Up’ might be the strongest song from Hugo’s hand since he released the smash hit ‘Wild’ in 2018. Hugo Helmig is back in stellar shape with a raw and unpolished pop song that depicts a feeling most will be able to recognize. The feeling of not quite having the same expectations for how a newly commenced relationship is supposed to develop. One party is seeing a potential for everything, while the other would rather just find a way out as fast as possible. A classic situation already depicted in a number of comedies and pop songs, but here it’s delivered with a smile and an effervescent energy by the young Danish pop talent. Hugo Helmig is working on a new music in a small studio in the outskirts of Copenhagen. The studio belongs to the 10-year-older producer Emil Falk whom Hugo was introduced to when he was 16, and they clicked instantly. “We have a special bond when it comes to music. We dig the same stuff whether it’s old blues and country or new pop songs on the radio. We both love BB King and Justin Bieber,” Hugo says with a smile. “We both care about the details and we can spend hours finding the right sound on a synthesizer or arguing over the settings on the guitar amp. I make pop music, but I always strive to make something unique.”
